Conceptual Reality At Its Finest

Robots Attack Fishing Vessels, Oil Tankers

In a line of experiments, Japanese scientist Takioshu Hodishima created what are now called “Mahou Hachi” or “Magic Eight,” so named for the new breed of 8 robots that have taken off of the coast of Japan two nights ago. Meant for defensive tests, these robots were to patrol coastlines, run a series of tests and return to their creator. The tests have gone what is described as “horribly wrong.”

Since Friday evening six vessels have been attacked by the Magic Eight including one oil tanker. “I ask them to come back,” explains Hodishima, “but they are out of range or ignore me.” Armed with drills, these underwater robots move very fast, up to 234 miles per hour, and could prove hard to catch. Because any attempt to capture them may only sink more ships, the Magic Eight may be more than a nuisance for some time to come.
